Whitby Distillery: Featured on Channel 4’s Yorkshire by the Sea

We’re thrilled to finally share some exciting news with you—Whitby Distillery is making its TV debut on Channel 4’s brand-new series, Yorkshire By The Sea!  This show celebrates the unique stories of businesses and communities along the breathtaking Yorkshire coast, and we’re honoured to be part of it.

The Journey to TV: How It All Started

Last summer, we were approached by Channel 4 with an incredible opportunity. They wanted to feature Whitby Distillery in Yorkshire By The Sea, and we couldn’t have been more excited. The timing was perfect, as we were in the final stages of developing our RNLI Rum—a unique spirit crafted with seabuckthorn and pepper dulse (a type of seaweed) and then aged in Madeira casks. This rum is particularly special to us because 10% of all proceeds are donated to the RNLI, helping them save lives at sea.

Behind the Scenes: Crafting Spirits on the Yorkshire Coast

The episode follows our journey as we work with local businesses to source the finest ingredients for our spirits. One of the highlights was showcasing our collaboration with Seagrown, who helped us harvest pepper dulse from Filey Brigg. This unique seaweed adds a distinctive flavor to our RNLI Rum, making it a true taste of the Yorkshire coast.

During filming, we also gave the crew a tour of our distillery in Whitby, where our beloved copper still, Dora Grace, works her magic. If you’ve ever visited us, you know we have a cosy shop and offer distillery tours where you can see firsthand how our spirits are made.
